How Often Should You Go to the Dentist?

Regular dental visits are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth, gums, and an attractive smile. Most patients should see a dentist every 6 months as recommended by the ADA, but some patients may have conditions that require more frequent visits. One of the main benefits of seeing us regularly is it allows us to catch the small things before they become big problems. Catching the little things early gives us the ability to fix them before you need expensive and invasive procedures, like root canals or extractions. Also, just because you don’t have a toothache does not mean there is no cavity. Cavities in the early stages often do not have any symptoms, and can often go undetected for a long period of time. A dental exam is not just about looking for cavities, during a checkup appointment we will evaluate your mouth, gums, and head and neck to look for anything out of the ordinary such as oral cancer. We will then clean your teeth with special instruments to remove the plaque that brushing alone cannot. Seeing us on a regular basis and following daily good oral hygiene practices will allow you to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
